in today's post I am not going to talk about coding or such stuff, actually it's all about coding but in a different way. So I heard from a friend that Kisii University main campus went on a strike. I then decided to go online n see if the story was doing rounds and to my disappointment, it wasn't. I decided to check out their website to see if i could gather some useful information, only to be welcomed by an error.

Kisii University home page on 7th Nov 2015 @ 1:46AM East African Time. |
As you can see from the screenshot the website returned two Errors, HTTP 403 Error and a 404 Error. Anyone with above average computer skills will right away know whats going on here, but anyways here is what the errors mean.
- Error 403 - Simply means that the server has been configured to deny access to the page being requested by the browser.
- Error 404 - This is normally shown when the page being requested doesn't exist.
I then decided to try and access the home page directly by appending the homepage file name, index.php to the url and that's when stuff got clear, the site was hacked, probably a Denial of service attack and defaced.

Kisii university defaced homepage at 1:48AM on 7th Nov 2015 |
"HACKED
Defaced Forever
Where is your security
Their system was hacked however nothing was deleted
4ng3lz Team.
US:Silence-0rion-P0br1n-tru3x177"
As you can see the screenshot, the site got defaced, but at least the hackers were decent enough to place an image of the university. In most cases when sites are defaced, porn is used.
The hackes then went ahead and left their initials "4ng3lz team" which is leet speak (or rather L337 5p34k) for Angelz Team. Leet speak is a simple cipher used by techies to pass info. There was also some dub-step music auto-playing when the page loaded.
If you ask me, I blame the web master. it's a shame a whole university is running unsecured serves. Up your game kisii university IT Department.
I don't know how long this incompetent web master will take to notice the site has been hacked and take it down until they fix everything, but in the mean time, check it out for yourself
